Tony Thibodeaux, 1938-2010
This set collects some photos from a few years back of Cajun fiddler Antoine "Tony" Thibodeaux, who died Sept. 30, 2010, in Lake Charles at the age of 72.

He was a member of the Cajun French Music Association Hall of Fame and was presented the CFMA Le Cajun Award in 2003 as Fiddler of the Year.
He was also named to the Lake Charles CFMA Chapter Hall of Fame. According to a 1998 biographical sketch in a book published by the chapter, Tony Thibodeaux played in bands led by Aldus Roger for 10 years (another source says that he joined the Lafayette Playboys in 1955 and was with them for 13 years); Belton Richard for 15 years; Paul Daigle, 6 years; Rodney Miller, 10 years; Jo-El Sonnier, 5 years; Doris Matte, 4 years. He played on a number of albums, including the 1998 La Louisianne Records release of “Fiddlin’ with Friends,” featuring Tony Thibodeaux and Rufus Thibodeaux (a distant relation). In recent years, he led his own band, the Cajun Five.

Tony Thibodeaux was also a fiddle teacher, so he legacy includes not only great recordings but young fiddlers who learned his fiddle style, among them Travis Matte and Jamey Bearb.
