An Afternoon at the 30th annual Zydeco Extravaganza, May 29, 2016
This Flickr collection comprises photos taken during the afternoon at the 30th annual Zydeco Extravaganza May 29, 2016, at Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette. When I ran out of energy at 6 p.m. and headed back to Eunice, the crowd was growing steadily, ready for six more hours of great zydeco music.
I really wish I could have brought my new Sigma 150-600 mm lens to take shots from the stadium seating area, but my camera bag could not accommodate both that lens and the 80-400 mm zoom that I use a lot. I tried instead to take shots from the seating area with a 1.4 teleconverter added to the 80-400 mm lens, but the focus using this combination with a Nikon D5 seems a bit off, an issue I need to check out. Most of the shots were, of course, taken standing on the floor in front of the stage. There was plenty of light, but, since it came from overhead, the musicians’ cowboy hats shaded their faces. I tried to hit the shutter at moments when musicians were looking up (and I tried to make adjustments while post-processing in Lightroom). Later in the afternoon, I used low power direct flash for a few shots of Rusty Metoyer and Jeffery Broussard.
