Festivals Acadiens et Créoles is celebrating its fortieth anniversary in 2014, so I thought it would be a good time for me to create Flickr photo sets covering Festivals Acadiens for 1999 through 2007. (My collections for more recent years are already available on Flickr.) I have files for 1999-2007 on my hard drive, but many of the photos are not online and none were organized into festival sets on Flickr.

When I retired from LSU at Eunice in 2009, I uploaded photos for the 2008 festival to Flickr and have been uploading festival collections every year since. The current Flickr sets for individual bands do include some of the festival photos that I started taking in 1999, but in 2008 I did not create separate sets or collections for the festival covering earlier years. In accomplishing that task now, I am necessarily uploading some duplicate photos already included in band sets, but a number of the photos have never been online before.

Unlike the collections for 2008 and after, all photos for each year from 1999 through 2007 are grouped in one set for each year without any subdivision into sets for each band. I placed the sets in this collection. Over the years, you will notice that the photo resolution gradually increases as I moved from using Nikon Coolpix cameras and a few scanned snapshots made with film cameras to the Nikon D100 and then to the Nikon D200. (I subsequently moved up to the D3 and D4.)

The designation “et Créoles” was added to the name “Festivals Acadiens” in 2008. To be more precise, all of the music photos actually were taken at what has been known since 1980 as Festival de Musique Acadienne (with “et Créole” added to the title in 2008). The music festival along with the Bayou Food Fest and the Louisiana Craft Fair make up Festivals Acadiens et Créoles.

For more about the festivals, including the history of the music festival that goes back to the Council on the Development of French in Louisiana’s A Tribute to Cajun Music held in 1974, visit www.festivalsacadiens.com/.
