2010 Blackpot Festival at Acadian Village, Lafayette, plus an after party at Lakeview Park
This collection includes six of the bands that performed at the 5th annual South Louisiana Blackpot Festival, held at Acadian Village in Lafayette, LA, Oct. 29-30, 2010, plus some photos of the after party at Lakeview Park near Eunice on Oct. 31.
I have photos of all of the bands on Friday night: Ryan Brunet et Les Malfecteurs, Horace Trahan and Ossun Express, High Performance, and the Pine Leaf Boys. I made it back to Lafayette for a while early Saturday afternoon to catch Ray Abshire and Friends. I didn’t take any photos of cookoff, but blackpots were being put to good use throughout the grounds, plus videographers were filming the cooks and cooking demonstrations (including the History Channel). The festival also featured many other roots musicians who are not included in this collection.
As often happens in Acadiana, too much was going on. I departed from Blackpot to return to Eunice to attend Geno Delafose’s annual Fan Appreciation Party, held this year at Lakeview Park. I left Lakeview about 9:30 (with Geno performing and the party still going strong) so that I could get back to Blackpot to catch the final Blackpot band, the Red Stick Ramblers, the group that organizes the festival. They went on stage about 10:45.
The after party, an old-fashioned barn dance at Lakeview Park 3 miles north of Eunice, was held on Halloween night, so I headed there after passing out candy to hordes of Eunice trick-or-treaters. See the note accompanying that set for more about Lakeview.
