Shawn P. Saucier and Friends, Rendez-vous des Cajuns Show, Acadian Prairie Cultural Center, Nov. 2, 2019
A trio led by Shawn P. Saucier with Nonc Ray Guidry and Fred Charlie played traditional Cajun music in a back porch setting for the relocated Rendez-vous des Cajuns Show inside the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve next to the Liberty Theater. The show was temporarily moved to the center because of air conditioning problems in the Liberty Theater, but it will return to the Liberty, 6-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, when Ryan Simon and the Acadien Cajun Band will perform.

Saucier invited Jerry Devillier, the show’s videographer, to join the trio for one number. (I believe it was the Calcasieu Waltz.) Devillier and his father, the late Amar “Ti-Frere” Devillier, will inducted into the Cajun French Music Association’s Lake Charles Chapter Hall of Fame on Nov. 10. For details about his activities and national recognition as a world class harmonica player and as a musician who helped Cajun music gain national and international recognition, check out the Oct. 20, 2019, issue of The Eunice News.
