August Broussard and Friends at the Liberty, Cajun Stompers at music program, June 1, 2019

August Broussard, a phenomenal old-style Cajun vocalist and excellent accordionist, returned to the Liberty Theater June 1, 2019, with more great traditional Cajun music. Other members of the band were Henry Hample, fiddle and several vocals; Mervin Faul, steel guitar; Eric Benoit, guitar; and Kevin Breaux, drums. Ray Landry hosted the show.

The 2:45-3:45 p.m. music program on the Bal de Maison Stage at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center next door featured members of the Cajun Stompers playing a variety of Cajun favorites: Mike Meche on guitar and vocals; Ken Stewart on accordion; and John Prestigiacomo on fiddle. They also provided background about the songs they played and discussed Cajun culture. Matt Fruge played t-fer and sang a couple of songs. Visitors from several states were in the audience. A cooking demonstration followed at 4:00. The center is one of six sites of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve.
