Experience Louisiana Festival, Oct. 20, 2018, LSUE campus
The 2018 Experience Louisiana Festival, held 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, on the LSUE campus, was a compact one-day event that featured a whole lot of activities including music, food, folklife demonstrations, booths highlighting various Louisiana attractions, a car and truck show, films curated by Pat Mire, readings at the LSUE Library, plus exhibition college baseball and softball. The main festival grounds were moved to the east side of the campus because fields for the LSUE’s new men’s and women’s soccer programs now occupy space that had been used for the festival in previous years.

Most of the photos in this album depict musicians—the Cajun French Music Association Young Musicians, Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie and the Savoy Family Band--but I also have shots of other activities. Eric and Suzy Thompson were surprise musical guests with the Savoys. Their two CDs from the 1980s with the California Cajun Orchestra (with the late Danny Poullard on accordion) are still played by Pete Bergeron on his early morning KRVS show “Bonjour Louisiane.” For more about them, go to www.ericandsuzy.com/.

The weather was cloudy with intermittent sprinkles. To avoid changing lenses while it was sprinkling, I used only a Nikon 28-300 f/3.5-5.6 lens throughout the day. I arrived at 11:30, went home (a half mile away) for a diabetic friendly lunch about 2:30, and was back at the festival by 3:30.
