High ISO photos of Sid Williams, Nathan Williams at the new Rock ‘n’ Bowl® de Lafayette, July 18, 2018
The photos in this album were taken at the new Rock ‘n’ Bowl® de Lafayette, the second location of a legendary New Orleans establishment that combines a bowling alley with a music venue. When I arrived at about 9:30 on the second night of the Rock ‘n’ Bowl® de Lafayette, John Blancher, the owner, was on the stage introducing Sid Williams, proprietor of El Sido’s Zydeco and Blues Club in Lafayette, along with his brothers, Nathan Williams, leader of the Zydeco Chas Chas, and band member Dennis Paul Williams. Earlier in the evening Nathan Williams Jr. (Lil’ Nate) had performed.

This was one of the rare occasions, the first in a very long time, that I’ve had a chance to photograph Sid Williams playing piano accordion and singing. Nathan Williams and the Zydeco Cha Chas took the stage about 9:45. In addition to photos taken near the stage, I got a few shots from a balcony that overlooks both the dance area and the bowling lanes.

Red and blue lights high above the stage provided only limited illumination. The excellent wooden dance floor was in the dark except for whirling colorful dots of light from giant disco balls overhead. Flash photography would have been really disruptive, so I tried to manage with available light, typically pushing ISO to 25,600 or higher. I wound up converting most of the photos to black and white in Photoshop or to antique or “300” toning using Lightroom presets. Even after noise reduction, the photos are grainy.
