Joe Simon and the Louisiana Cajuns at the Liberty, plus events at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center, Aug. 25, 2018
The photos in this album include shots taken Aug. 25, 2018, of Joe Simon and the Louisiana Cajuns performing at the Liberty Theater, plus the free afternoon music program and cooking demonstration next door at the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve.

In addition to Joe Simon on vocals, the Louisiana Cajuns included Ricky Menard on accordion; Jimmy Higginbotham on guitar and vocals; Ron Granger on fiddle; Red Trahan on bass; and Emily Simon (Joe Simon’s granddaughter) on drums. Pope Huval hosted the show.

Three award-winning musicians performed at the weekly 2:45-3:45 p.m. music program. Kegan Navarre on accordion, Paul Fruge on guitar, and Zachary Fuselier on fiddle are members of the band Louisiana Traditions, which on Aug. 23 received the Le Cajun Award from the Cajun French Music Association for the Best First CD. Zachary Fuselier was a co-recipient of the Fiddler of the Year Le Cajun Award. All sang vocals, and the performance also featured music program regular Matt Fruge on triangle and vocals.

For this week’s 4 p.m. cooking demonstration, Leona Lacombe showed how to prepare homemade fig bread.
