The Band Courtbouillon at the 29th annual Eunice Crawfish Étouffée Cookoff, March 30, 2014
These photos of the Grammy-winning band Courtbouillon were taken between about 2:45 and 3:30 p.m. at the 29th annual Eunice Crawfish Étouffée Cookoff, March 30, 2014.

I was in Lafayette until about 1:15 p.m., running the Zydeco Half Marathon and then taking photos of the bands at the after party. When I returned to Eunice, I passed by my home for a quick shower and then headed to the cookoff. By the time I arrived, the étouffée booths were sold out, but a large crowd was still there, gathered under the Northwest Community Center pavilion to enjoy the music provided by Courtbouillon, a true Cajun super group composed of Wayne Toups on accordion, Steve Riley on accordion and guitar, and Wilson Savoy on fiddle, with Chevy Foreman on bass.

They were seated on the stage in the shade of the pavilion, with the afternoon sun creating strong backlighting behind them. I thought better of blasting them with direct flash to counteract the backlighting. Bounced flash off the high ceiling seemed to have no effect, so I just accepted the reality that whatever photographs I took would need a lot of post processing. Next time, I need to remember to set my camera to take multiple bracketed exposures to give me more choices in deciding which photos to try to salvage.
