Home on the prairie
My 1st living wild snake of the year! Even though its only a garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis) I was still pretty excited to find it cause it gave me the chance to practice some more with the new lens the sigma 10-20. I have admired photos that show the animal in its environment for a long time and now I have the equipment to get my own shots, please let me know what you think I could improve on/what I should do differently next time and so on, basically any advice anyone wants to offer is more than appreciated. This is actually the first photo of a garter snake that I have uploaded to flickr which is kind of surprising since these are the most common snakes in my area.
Edit: It was pointed out to me that this is likely a Chicago Garter Snake (Thamnophis sirtalis semifasciatus) a subspecies of the Common (Eastern) Garter Snake, you can tell by the black striping on its side. I am sure I have found them before but this is the first time it has been brought to my attention that its a T. s. semifasciatus.
