Heteropoda sp. - Danum Valley, Malaysia
This would have been a good photo to post on Halloween but I forgot about it, so here it is a week late. I thought for a while this was Heteropoda davidbowie, but now I am unsure if that species is found in Borneo. Either way its a closely related Huntsman spider in the same genus as H. davidbowie. Here it has seized another arachnid and is making a snack of it, and if you look closely you can see small flies that were attracted to the carnage as well. I suppose they like the leaking fluids as well and they are too small for the huntsman to bother with. These spiders are fast and active predators that do not build webs but will run down or ambush their prey, the harvestman didn't stand a chance. Happy belated Halloween!
