Silver Langurs (Trachypithecus cristatus) - Kinabatangan River, Malaysia
Not the best photo but this pair represent the only time I photographed this species, which is also known as the silvery lutung and the silver leaf monkey. They were common along the Kinabatangan however they are rather rare in Danum Valley and Malua where I worked for extended periods of time. These monkeys are found in Borneo, Sumatra, and parts of Peninsular Malaysia where they inhabit forests near water, whether it be riverine forest or mangroves. They make their living eating leaves, infact leaves make up a higher percentage of its diet than any other Colobine monkey. They will occasionally consume fruit but it makes up a small portion of their overall diet. The species is listed as near threatened by IUCN due to habitat loss.
