Forest Scorpion

Chaerilus solegladi - Mount Kinabalu National Park, Malaysia

One thing I love about the tropics is that there is so much left to be discovered. I believe this little scorpion to be Chaerilus solegladi, a species only described in 2012. A small species which would be easy to miss as it lives a secretive life in the leaf litter and underneath rocks and logs in the Bornean jungle. We can only begin to guess how many other similar species await discovery. This scorpion is found nowhere else besides Borneo, other members of its genus can be found throughout tropical regions of Southern Asia
