Orangutan in nest

Bornean orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) - Danum Valley, Malaysia

This young male orangutan constructed a nest of branches and leaves and proceeded to take a short nap in it. Here he wakes from his nap. Shortly after waking he moved higher in the same tree and constructed another nest, this was a bit unusual as it was early in the day. Normally orangutans will construct nests to sleep in every single day before darkness falls. From a young age orangutans will practice building nests and will be proficient at it by the time they are 3 years old.
