Parasitic fungi

Wasp and fungus - Danum Valley, Malaysia

A parasitic fungi and its wasp prey. These fungi are amazing,

when a Cordyceps fungus attacks a host, the mycelium invades and eventually replaces the host tissue, while the elongated fruit body (ascocarp) may be cylindrical, branched, or of complex shape. This process is fatal, before succumbing the host will often climb to an elevated place which in turn creates optimal conditions for maximum dispersal of the fungus spores.
