Tiger Leech (Haemadipsa picta) - Danum Valley, Malaysia
Not my favorite thing about Borneo but one that's impossible to ignore...the leeches! Some days there weren't so many, other days there were hordes of them, last year there was a memorable day where after getting back from the field I picked 102 of them off my clothes, shoes, and person. Its usually nowhere near that bad but most days I would receive atleast a few bites especially since I stopped bothering with leech socks (special socks to protect against leeches) as I found them uncomfortable. As you can see the leeches hang out on leaves and wait for something to walk by at which point they will latch on. This specific species of leech is quite pretty and is found in Borneo and peninsular Malaysia.
