Cicada sp. - Kinabalu National Park, Malaysia

I have no idea what species of cicada this might be, it was found during a night hike in tropical montane forest in Kinabalu National Park. Borneo undoubtedly has a a rich representation of cicadas so its unlikely I will be able to narrow down the ID of this individual. Cicadas spend most of their lives underground in their larval form, eventually they emerge and climb up on vegetation where the adult emerges. This is what is happening in the photo above. This is a lengthy process during which the cicada is extremely vulnerable so it is no surprise that this tends to happen at night.
