Philippine tarsier (Carlito syrichta) - Bohol, Philippines
This is a Philippine tarsier, a species endemic to the Philippines. These tiny primates are nocturnal and arboreal, after dark they can be spotted jumping from tree to tree as they search for prey. They mostly feed on insects although the occasional small vertebrate may also be consumed.
Despite appearing very similar to the Horsfield's tarsier or Western Tarsier (Cephalopachus bancanus), which is found nearby in Borneo, or even the other tarsier species in the genus Tarsius, this species has been placed in a different genus (Carlito) where it is the only member.
This was photographed in the tarsier reserve, and its a bit questionable as to how wild these tarsiers are. They're certainly acclimated to humans, but it seems they are free to go where they will, there is no fencing or anything to keep them in.
