For Light from Tomorrow, Jon Thomson & Alison Craighead installed light sensors in the Kingdom of Tonga, situated just across the international date line, and about 20 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time. (After August 14, the sensors will be moved to New Zealand.) The sensors measure the light levels at their location and then transmit those levels to the light box in front of you, providing a visceral sense of the distant places to which the Internet connects us. Light from Tomorrow visually plays with our notions of time, asking what it might mean when you can transmit information about light that arrives sooner, apparently, than the light itself.
