From the Maui Revealed guidebook: "you may be treated to something availabe in only a few places in the world. It happens as you're standing at the crater's edge, and there's cloud below and in front of you...while the sun is low and directly behind you. Called Spectre of the Brocken or akaku anuenue in Hawaiian, it's when you see your own shadow on the clouds with a rainbow surrounding your shadow....The Hawaiians felt blessed to experience it because they believed that what they were seeing was their actual soul, and the rainbow was a promise from heaven that their souls would be taken care of."
