leica IIIb with leica-motor

One (or three) of the real prizes from The House is this Leica IIIb with Leica-Motor and Summicron lens. The IIIb was the last version of the original Barnack body... it has the almost-single-eyepiece viewfinder optics of the IIIC and IIIF in the slightly smaller body of the II, III and IIIa. The Summicron lens was the last and finest f/2 normal lens made by Leitz in the Screw Mount, it could be 20 years newer than the camera. And the motor ... well, this is the first one of these I've ever handled. I've had a Robot II before, and as spring motors go this one is much, much better. It gives 12 shots on a wind, and has a counter on the back to tell you how many you have left before the motor stops; it advances at 2 frames per second and doesn't slow down a bit from the first shot to the last. It's kind of fun to watch the wind knob and shutter speed dial spinning back and forth as it runs.....
