This one was taken last year, not the greatest of photos but uploaded with a reason. I might be preaching to the converted here. But in case you’ve missed it Glen Hansard has a new album out ‘Rhythm and Repose’.
I’ve only know him/his music for little over a year and managed to not see, hear OR watch the movie ‘Once’, which is probably his most known accomplishment. I got introduced to Glens music by fellow snapper and the bestest of Aussies Fleur. That same year Glen opened up for Ed Vedder on his US tour, which was my first experience seeing him live. With nothing more than a beat up guitar he managed to knock me off my socks within the first 5 minutes of his show. His voice, his apparent passion for his music and the urgency of his performance made my jaw drop (seriously, literally…it dropped and stayed there for the rest of his set. I probably looked ridiculous..) and the hair on my arms stand up straight.
After seeing him live I tracked down pretty much everything he had done up to that point; The Swell Season, The Frames etc. All splendid and beautiful BUT his new solo effort takes the cake. This album has completely taken over my life and I figured I’d share the fun. So to make a short story long. If you've got the time check out his Tiny Desk Concert (you won't be disappointed), buy ‘Rhythm and Repose’ and please, go see him live!!
Okay that's all....I could have just asked you to check out his album and leave the rest out, but what's the fun in that. Have a good weekend.
EDIT: 15/07 watched 'Once' ..... finally.....and it wasn't what i expected, which is a good thing i guess.
