What are those two dark stripes in the picture? And why is there a bluish haze above the upper one?

This was shot at about 7am from an airplane flying at 35,000 feet. The cloud-filled valley in the middle of the frame is about 50 miles northwest of Crater Lake in Oregon.

A 3D stereo view of this scene (see the anaglyph or the cross-eyed version) suggests that the upper stripe is located somewhere in mid-air while the lower one is close to or on the ground. The lower stripe is definitely not the shadow of the upper one, since the anti-solar point is just above and slightly to the right of the center of the frame.
