Red-footed Cannibalfly - Promachus rufipes

    Newer Older

This is one of my favorite flies from North Carolina. This one followed me around the yard until it killed a fly and stopped to enjoy the meal on a garden decoration.

JAW DROPPING AMAZING macro of the Cannibalfly...never ever seen one before. Fantastic shot of it with the hoverfly. Incredible sharpness and detail. I am really really really impressed with this. You are so skilled with macro photography. Insects are challenging to capture like this.

Lynette, I've seen these awards some groups give where it says this photo should be on the cover of National Geographic yet far too many get them when they shouldn't. But honestly, this photo is so amazing, it really should be & the year's best!! Everything came together perfectly in this shot. Wow, wow, WOW!! I can't say it enough!

(Still sick - get sort of better, then worse again so will catch up yet. I've missed many of your & other's photos.)

I echo all the positives! Great DOF for f3.5. You are spot on with the focus. I suspect you use dry ice to cool and gas your subjects! Mine won't stay still most of the time. Maybe if I eat more garlic....
