Winter Blues

Usually when one refers to the "Winter Blues", they mean it was a dreary Winter. Actually, this has been the most fantastic and delightfully mild Winter I've ever experienced. So it wasn't the weather that had me blue this year. I took this picture the day before my husband's birthday in November, totally unaware at the time of just how prophetic it was. As some of you know, 2012 has not started off very well for us due to my husband's diagnosis of emphysema three days before Christmas. Right now, he is doing 'well', but there is no cure for, nor recovery from, emphysema and it saddens me greatly to think about what lies ahead for him/us. His lungs are only functioning at one-third their capacity. I'm trying not to think about it constantly and to concentrate on the moment that is 'here and now'. Really, that is all that any of us has.

The news, and dealing with it, threw me into a tailspin. I had just made my return to Flickr before the holidays and then this happened three days before Christmas and I disappeared again. I'm sorry, and I'll do my best to stick around a little longer this time.

I would like to thank all of you who have written to me, expressing your concern and support. I appreciate it more than I can say. My apologies for not getting back to most of you... I will try to do better with that in the future, too. I plan to keep my Flickr page as a place of beauty, comfort, fun, and humor - not a place of sadness. Here's to better times ahead!

Update: - That happened right after I finally returned to Flickr at Christmas. Then, as if that weren't bad enough, right as I was getting ready to return again for the second time at the end of January, Chloe (my Dobe) passed away on January 28th. I can't believe she's been gone for a whole month now. {{Gee...

I wrote that a month ago! It's doubly hard to believe she's been gone almost two months now.}} It seems like it's only been a couple of weeks. I still cry when I look at her pictures : (

I will be posting more info on that, along with a photo of her, soon.

In addition to the above, we had a string of other things that happened in the first two months of 2012 which knocked us off our feet, including a neice who was in the hospital with a blood clot in her leg from smoking and a nephew who is a diabetic and having kidney problems. He has had one dialysis treatment and it is uncertain at this time if he will need more, or a kidney transplant. Then at the beginning of this month we had the tornado scare that hit our area so hard. We live just nine miles from one of the hardest hit communities in Kentucky. Luckily, we managed to come through it totally unscathed with not so much as a downed tree limb. My neighborhood doesn't show any signs of it at all, while just nine miles away the devastation is surreal. There were a number of other things that happened in January and February as well, which I won't go into, and I was under a dark cloud of depression from being bombarded by so many things, with such rapid succession, in such a short amount of time. But it's March now, and Spring is just around the corner - scratch that... it's TOMORROW! - and it's time to shake off all the bad luck and get back into the swing of things.

So sorry this was so lengthy. I'm flying low all this week, but I just wanted to get this posted before the official start of Spring. I'll be around and in touch after all the hubbub of this week dies down a little. I'm looking forward to getting around to all your photostreams and seeing what you've been up to while I was gone. Take care!
