Warr Acres Fire Station

Warr Acres Fire Station

Designed by Robert W. Vahlberg

OKC

1963

Robert Vahlberg designed some of my very favorite buildings in the OKC area, including this modest fire station/city hall in suburban Warr Acres. He graduated from OU and received his Master's from MIT in the late 30's and returned to OKC to join his Uncle Walter Vahlberg's firm to learn the business. During that brief time, he managed to design a few buildings, including his parents' eye popping, Bauhaus-influenced home in Edgemere Park, before leaving to serve overseas for three years during WWII. After the war, he came home and got right back to work designing modern homes, including his own stunner in Forest Park that was featured in both Time and American Home magazines in 1948.

Vahlberg worked steadily through the 1960's, designing other cool, modern fire stations, homes, and small office buildings, then he retired to enjoy life with his wife and kids in the Forest Park home he loved so much.
