World War 2 Re-enactment, Duncannon - German Soldier

    Newer Older

No, I haven't joined up with any far-right-wing organisations.
Last Sunday, I attended a World War 2 re-enactment in Duncannon in Co. Wexford.
The show is run by the Munster Military Vehicle & Re-enactment Group and is one of Ireland's biggest vintage military vehicle and re-enactment events.

Sheree (Here intermittently), and 12 other people added this photo to their favorites.

Excellent portrait. Saw a really good movie about WW2 called "The Black Book."

Nice shot, John. Another re-enactment has just finished on telly. Not so nice to see as yours though ( for some )

Nothing more offensive here than the Confederate reenactors that take part in the American Civil War reenactments here. Someone has to play the enemy in the reenactments, no matter how controversial the regime.

Very Nice photo, well done! The guy in the picture isn't a right wing nut job either, (they're not allowed into the MMVRG which run the show) he's a military history enthusiast who also re-enacts other periods. :)

Cuddly Nutter: What are the white lines on his uniform? Have you reversed it ?

The uniform is a lightweight summer version made from Herring Bone Twill (HBT) it's very similar to Denim, the white lines are stitching! It was fairly new when the photo was taken and hadn't been weathered yet, it looks nice 'n shabby now! :)

Can't comment on that one as i don't subscribe to that particular publication, but agree it's a nice crisp portrait! :)

L Geoffroy :Cool shot. Just one question was his accent German or Irish? ;-))

The normal accent is Irish, but as the show is a 'living history' event, all orders and commands for the WW1 & WW2 German displays are given in German.

If you're at the show again this June bank holiday weekend, you should take a look around the fort, there are some pretty cool bunkers and pillboxes! most of the re-enactors would be happy enough to pose for a few shots (schedules permitting) as long as you agree to send them copies afterwards!

Cian M:Is that an airsoft gun by any chance?

No, that's an original Mauser Kar 98k manufactured in 1937, it's a 'live fire' weapon which means it can fire blanks in the battle re-enactments.
There are some pretty good a Air-Soft replica's available, but they don't make a bang!

I totally agree, the intention is to educate & entertain not offend. It's a large multi period show and people with PC sensitivites can avoid certain displays if they wish.
