Sorting airmail

Description: An unidentified clerk is pictured sorting letters into pigeonhole compartments labeled with stops along the transcontinental airmail route. The coast to coast route opened in the fall of 1920. The pigeonhole labels mark the route from east to west. Hazelton, NJ, Bellefonte, PA, Cleveland, OH, Bryan, OH, Iowa City, IA, Omaha, NB, North Platte, NB Cheyenne, WY, Rock Springs, WY, Salt Lake City, UT, and Elko, NV. Hidden behind the clerk are compartments for Reno, NV, and San Francisco, CA.
