Russell Fiord 2
The entrance to Russell Fiord. You can get a feeling for the height of the ice in comparison to the island on the right. The ice is 300 -400 feet high. In the past, the glacier has advanced several times to close off this entrance, creating a lake behind the ice dam. When the water level behind the dam has reached 60-80 feet, the pressure causes the dam to suddenly burst, releasing all the ice and water behind it.
