A silhouetted rear view of the Statue of Liberty and a section of the 1811 star-shaped Fort Wood wall at her base. This year marks the fort's bicentennial.
I began my 35-year career in the National Parks at the Statue in 1973, and until yesterday had not been back there in decades.
On October 28, 2011 we will celebrate the 125th Birthday of the "Lady in the Harbor." More information on the year's events will be posted in www.flickr.com/groups/statueoflibertynationalmonument/poo.... You can also visit the park's website at www.nps.gov/stli.
To get the total silhouette effect, I edited the raw image in Picasa, and just increased the "Shadows" up all the way.
