Both sides of a Bitburger beer mat, probably from Germany. It is a model of simplicity - the name, a beer drinker, and a glass on the front, and the slogan on the back. The slogan, "A Bit, please," was introduced in 1937. I probably picked this Bierdeckel up in Germany, most likely on our trip in the Mosel and Rhine valleys. I have geotagged this one with the brewery location.
Bitburger beer is produced in the Eifel region of Germany, not far from the Luxembourg border. It is now third in sales in Germany, and is said to be the largest producer of draft beer.
Bitburger and Warsteiner were said to be first and second a few years ago, but they have been passed by Oettinger and Krombacher. Oettinger, the top seller, is headquartered in northern Bavaria near Coburg, but has several other breweries in other parts of Germany. It is sold on price, almost exclusively in supermarkets and other retail outlets.
