Sarasota - Downtown from Air (2000)
I photographed Sarasota from the air on a flight from Sarasota airport only once, in June 2000. This is the first of a series of seven photos. It shows downtown Sarasota and some of the barrier islands. The "old" John Ringling Bridge to St. Armands Key had not yet been replaced. Longboat Key, perhaps the top address in the Sarasota area, is off the photo at the right background.
Bird Key, mostly artificial, is at left in the center of the photo at the left. The condominiums at left near the water are on Gulfstream Avenue, one block back from Tamiami Trail (US 41). Fruitville Road runs from the near right center of the photo to the lower right corner. Selby Library, newly built, is the square building with a blue roof at the right. It is diagonally across from the Opera House.
This photo is geotagged with a downtown location near the middle of the photo.
