Edwards - Caterpillar "Power Parade"

This photo was taken at the Caterpillar's Peoria Proving Grounds in Edwards, Illinois. It is about 10 miles (15 km) northwest of downtown Peoria. This was a place where Caterpillar equipment was tested and displayed.

The "Power Parade" was an event that Caterpillar had every few years, to show off the entire product line. It was mainly for Caterpillar dealers, but this was a Saturday performance for employees. You can see track-type tractors ("bulldozers"), hydraulic excavators, graders, scrapers, and maybe another type or two.

Hydraulic excavators (lower right) were the latest addition to the product line as of 1973. This was probably the first time I had actually seen one.
