Boer War 1901-2
See description on photo back also. That may be Surgeon Captain Arthur Martin Leake VC in the center of the front row. Compare with photo link in note above. He was one of only 3 people in history to win the Victoria Cross twice. This raggedy crew is from the 1st SAC or South African Constabulary. Best viewed in original size.
I have two copies of the photo. The 2nd photo back reads in my grandfather's handwriting:
"Troop 18, South African Constabulary (called then Baden-Powell's Mounted Police) fighting in the Boer War. We had just captured about 50 Boers and 2 Cape Carts with spans of horses (1901-2). That is Runn in Foreground. I am in the white shirt+2 bandoliers on the left (standing)."
