Sir Peter Fairbairn, Woodhouse Square
Sir Peter Fairbairn was mayor of Leeds from 1858 to 1859. His home was Woodsley House on Clarendon Road which he had built in 1840. He welcomed Queen Victoria there as his guest when the Queen came to Leeds to open the Town Hall in 1858. The Queen knighted him during the opening ceremony. This statue to his memory was crafted by Matthew Noble and paid for by public subscription. It cost £1000.
