DRINKS & EGGS -- An Egg Vending Machine Outpost on Okinawa
If you live in Japan, you can attest to the feeling that they have a vending machine for almost anything. Okinawa is the true Japanese Kingdom of Vending Machines, having three times a many per capita as the rest of Japan.
However, even I was caught by surprise to see this one, originally discovered by my daughter !
I went in there, popped 200 yen into the coin slot, and got a package with eighteen large, fresh eggs.
Let's see...that's about US $2.50 for 18 large eggs.
This is in the village of GENKA, about 10 km north of central NAGO CITY.
GENKA village sits on the East China Sea, where the Genka River flows onto the reefs. The Genka River is the longest "Family River Walk" river in all of Okinawa Prefecture. With no waterfalls to speak of, it instead offers several kilometers of flat-out shallows, hard-packed sand bars, and some very deep side pools to play in as you make your way up river.
And...on your way home you can get some.....eggs !
