GEISHA RELAXING -- Will the Real Photographer Please Stand Up!
I have NOT repaired or cleaned these two views for Flickr. I have left them "as is" so you can see what over 100 years of being handled has done to them.
The Real photographer is T. ENAMI of YOKOHAMA. He took the top view ca.1898. Rip-off Artist NAITO of TOKYO waited a few years, then snuck out his pirate version about 1905. It looked OK...so why not take credit for it ? So, he slapped his name on the mount, and sold it to foreign tourists (who would be taking it out of Japan), probably thinking that T. ENAMI down in Yokohama would never find out. Notice how Naito chopped the domes off the top of Enami's stereoview to fit his own format. www.t-enami.org/
