Celing, Warsaw Castle

The Royal Castle of Warsaw was rebuilt in the 1970's, having been blown up by the Nazis. Many of the trappings and artworks had been taken from the castle and hidden away by local professors who lobbied for its reconstruction after the war. The Soviet Government was for decades reluctant to allow its reconstruction, but gave permission in the 1970's--all the funds for the reconstruction were donated by local private citizens and expats of Polish ancestry.
