7:365 snow-covered rose

my roses just will not completely give up and realize that it's winter.

shutter: 1/125 aperture: f/5.6 60mm ISO 200

aperture priority with Nikon D300 i've also got the saturation dialed up on my camera, but that rose really is pretty darn red.

i did another version of this one too, with an antique treatment, just to push myself out of my normal rut. what do you think?

Oh lovely...I like both, I prefer the antique one by a smidge. It's really unusual.

I love them both, the antique one is warmer it's definitely different, but I'm not sure which one I prefer. I love that perfect little hat of snow on the rose. I tried taking similar shot but it doesn't want to work with my kit lens.

Excellent. I love the sharpness & the blurryness of the background. I like both shots - they have quite a different feel to them, don't they?

Mmm... I like the original one more. It can beautifully evokes the cold feeling of snow.

    Great shot, instant favorite!

I think the antiqued one is warmer, but the original one pops, even amongst the thumbnails. My absolute favorite, though, is the one you did last year, showing the frost on the beautiful bud.

    110Penned you mean this one?

    frosty rose

it makes me realize that today's shot has a lot more sorrow in it than that one had. :-) but the snow has been much harder on the rose now. :-)

i really think its beautiful j, cant believe you've got still got living roses

Love the deep red and bright white of the first shot....but the second shot is very romantic and timeless.
  • Seamus O'Conner 5y

Absolutely beautiful. I love how the red is so deep. Great work.
  • Cheryl MacLean 5y

Both are really lovely - I like the second one slightly more because it has an 'unexpected' look to it.

Definitely love the first shot that is more red. Again, that is me with the not loving the processing thing. I really need to think outside of my box more!
  • kristina_lf 5y

I like the first one the best - that red is so striking. the details are perfectly sharp!
  • Cyndy Engle 5y

Yes, Julie, that's the one! I think of this picture often. Irony draped in beauty...
  • Jennifer Gandin Le 5y

Gorgeous! I like the first shot -- red against snow is always striking and beautiful to me.

We have a rosebush that my hubby has been trying to kill with no success...it just keeps spreading. Love the original image with the deep red saturation!! Beautiful!!
  • Mel Hunt 5y

Both are beautiful - and very different feels. I think I prefer the first one, gorgeous color.
