Rest in Peace
The College Cemetery in St. Patrick's College Maynooth is a very special place. It is a little island of peace on a generally quite busy campus. You enter it through a massive covered avenue of Yew trees, and then you end up in a small-ish open area surrounded on three sides by trees, including some spectacular purple Beeches which turn a beautiful, almost autumnal orange when they are sprouting new leaves in late Spring. In the background you can see the spire of the College Chapel (the Gunne Chapel).
It's also worth noting that Nicholas Callan, the inventor of the induction coil, is buried here, his grave is one of the many with the tall crosses you can see in this shot actually. So, next time you start your car, remember that it was made possible by a priest who worked, lived, and is buried in, St. Patrick's College in Maynooth, Ireland.
This shot was taken on a Typical Shutter Bug photo walk, the first one in Ireland. (I use the word 'walk' loosely since we did some driving between locations)
This shot was generated by lightly tonemapping a single RAW file using Photomatix Pro.
