Bothriocyrtum californicum (F Ctenizidae) trapdoor

In San Diego county, this species is typically found on small banks, e.g., along trails or roadcuts. Sometimes, one finds burrows in flat, open ground, as pictured above. Unfortunately, non-native grasses seem to be having a real impact on this species - these grasses can totally "smother" the ground - imagine the burrow above with such smothering grasses :(
