LADOT Commuter Express RTS (!)

The Los Angeles Department of Transportation inherited a few 1992 TMC RTSs from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) for use on Commuter Express. Former Metro No. 1344 kept its same number running as an LADOT Commuter Express bus.

It was not modified for commuter service. It still has the local bus seating, but it did get LADOT's old-fashioned farebox. The headsigns have been turned off, and the pieces of paper on the windshield show this is a Line 423 short line to Encino.

A Foothill Transit Orion commuter bus can be seen in the background.

LADOT's Commuter Express buses are operated by Veolia.

I hope it has more comfortable seats then the hard plastic seats I remember.

Sadly, these are gone now as well. LADOT Commuter Express recently returned these to Metro and they subsequently retired them. They went up for auction today at the LACMTA storage yard in Long Beach.
