Project 365 #86: 270309 It's Not A Plane...
To any plane buffs, the name 'English Electric' will be instantly familiar as the creator of the Canberra and Lightning military aircraft. The Lightning in particular has a place in many hearts as it was a stupidly, awesomely, brutally fast plane. It was introduced in 1959 and even 50 years on I think it STILL holds some fairly esoteric timed ascent record.
But EE were about more than just planes. It was a magnificent manufacturing organisation of a kind we just don't have any more. They made loads of rail locomotives, including the hugely popular Class 55 and Class 86 locos, as well as a whole host of others.
But they also made domestic goods, and I was thrilled (yes, I'm sad) to see this tumble dryer dumped by the bins outside school. I don't know how old it is, but as it's English Electric badged it's pre 1968, and I daresay it probably still works. Stuff was made to last back then.
So sorry for the poor focusing but it was the mobile phone again. Consider it one for the category of 'something interesting I saw'. :)
