Bodie Ghost Town, CA, 1999
(1 in a multiple picture set)
I've visited a lot of ghost towns in the West. They are not unlike the ghost farms I see when I go back to my childhood area of Iowa. (In fact, the Midwest is starting to have their own ghost towns, a very sad thing to me.) It always occurs to me that Mother Nature only loans us the space we live on. When we move on and cease to maintain our structures, she takes them back. They weather, sag, fall down and are absorbed back into the earth. In as little as fifty years, if man doesn't intervene, nothing will remain. Dust to dust.
