Beauty and the beast
It has happened. The Japanese beetle infestation has reached Minneapolis. Our fruit trees at Mill Pond have been plagued by them for the last few years now. This is the first time I have noticed them this far north here in MPLS. And in impressive numbers I might add. Very few birds will eat them. Cardinals will, but prefer other food sources if available. They have virtually no control predators. You can plainly see what these invasive pests have done to the petals of this beautiful daisy. The leaves of our fruit trees at the pond look like cheesecloth. Once again, someone's "good idea" has gone awry. I hope a solution can be found. One that doesn't poison beautiful creatures like this eastern swallowtail.
