MONYWA- HPO WIN DAUNG

HPO WIN DAUNG è un complesso di grotte ricavate sulle pareto di una collina a circa 25 km da Monywa. Il nome del complesso significa Montagna della Meditazione Isolata e Solitaria. Il complesso contiene 947 grotte, di varie dimensioni, riccamente decorate. Sono scavate nell'arenaria e contengono numerose statue del Buddha e affreschi dai disegni geometrici o raffiguranti storie della Jakata (vite dei Buddha). Le statue e i dipinti sono datati tra il 14° e il 18° secolo.

 

HPO WIN DAUNG is a Buddhist cave complex located approximately 25 kilometers west of Monywa an The name of the complex means Mountain of Isolated Solitary Meditation.

The complex contains 947 small and large richly decorated caves. It is carved into a sandstone outcrop and contains numerous carved Buddha statues and mural paintings of geometric patterns and Jataka stories. The statues and paintings have been dated to between the 14th and 18th centuries.
