Pair of Green-winged teal at Burnaby Lake.
The Green-winged teal is is the smallest North American dabbling duck.Teals prefer shallow inland wetlands, beaver ponds, and coastal marshes with heavy vegetation and muddy bottoms. These habitats are often found in deciduous parklands, boreal forests, grasslands, or sedge meadows.
Apparently, these are one of the most commonly hunted ducks in North America. In 1989, approximately 200,000 were harvested in Canada alone. Yikes, it is lucky these two had parents that survived.
