our walk in the woods
When my husband and I were young and broke we went walking on the weekends. We scouted all of the local parks in all of our many locations, and since we usually had a dog in tow it was the perfect recreation.
I'll never forget an overheard snippet of conversation between a mother and her two teens on the trail at Sleeping Giant, one of our favorite Connecticut hikes. She said, and I quote, "stop complaining, one day you're going to look back on these walks and remember how much fun they were!" Cracked me up then, and it still does.
Our kids aren't complaining yet . . . they're quite happy to make snowballs, look for animal tracks, or just dump snow into the stream.
