The Foshay Tower--which was modeled after the Washington Monument--was one of the tallest buildings west of the Mississippi when it was completed in 1929, and remained the tallest structure in Minneapolis until 1972. At 447 feet (607 feet counting the radio antenna mast at the top) the Foshay seems short by modern standards. As far as concrete skyscrapers go, however, it is second in height only to the Empire State Building in New York. (Source: Wikipedia)
I came downtown to shoot from the open-air observation deck on the 38th floor (just above the letters), but was too late. The deck closes at 9:00pm.
